New Currency Voting
Source: http://www.ea-land.ea.com/blog/?p=921
A giant THANK YOU to everyone that sent in suggestions for the name of the new in-game currency. We had a whopping 770 nominations. Wowsers! After weeks of deliberating, we were finally able to narrow our choices down to five.

The three runners-up are:
  • Casholeans
  • Floreans
  • Landoleans
We loved these, but were unable to use them. The final five we chose are:
  • MetaBucks
  • EABucks
  • EADollars
  • eBucks
  • FunBucks
Some of you had suggested Funny Money, and we absolutely loved that, but felt “50 funny monies” or even “10 thousand funny monies” did not sound fluid. We changed it slightly to FunBucks, and are still giving those that nominated “Funny Money” credit.

Voting: The voting is going to be very simple. We have put all five cards (pictured on the side) into the inventory of the oldest character of each subscribing player. Simply delete the ones that you don’t like. Keep the ones that you like in your inventory. Yes, that means you can vote for more than one. On Monday March 31st at 3:30 pm PDT, we will take all of the cards away and tabulate how many cards are left in the world. The winner of the new currency name will be the one that you guys liked and did not delete!

Only subscribing players are eligible to vote. These cards have been given to the oldest avatar on the account,

Amnesty Program Details
Source: http://www.ea-land.ea.com/blog/?p=891
Anniversary Gift
What is Amnesty?
Amnesty concerns anniversary gifts and skill locks. It works for all account types.

Regarding anniversary gifts, amnesty means ensuring that every player gets at least one set of requisite gifts for their entitlement age, regardless of whether they lost (or did not lose) those gifts.

The TSO founder simmy is included in amnesty as is an extension to the original date (see below).

For a short period of time (now until April 30, 2008), the algorithm used for skill locks will be adjusted to consider entitlement age as an alternative means of calculating skill locks. After the amnesty period, a new algorithm for determining skill locks will be in place. So create your characters before the deadline to take advantage of the amensty, the algorithm for after is tougher!

City-From Gifts
It is never wise to forget where we came from so in keeping with that sentiment we are providing City-From Gifts or badges.

Avatars created in one of the original TSO cities, not EA-Land or Test Center 3, will receive a plaque representing the city the moved or merged from. Check them out at the EA-Land Town Hall.

TSO Founder
The current TSO founder date is December 17, 2002. The new founder date will be June 17, 2003 (i.e. plus 6 months). Note: this is not to be confused with EA-Land founder which will be accounts in good standing after July 1, 2007 and prior April 30, 2008.

Accounts created prior to June 17, 2003 will be considered TSO founders and will receive three (3) simmies in EA-Land and one (1) simmy in TC3. The simmies will be deposited in the inventory of the primary avatar of that account.

If an account has no avatar on one or both cities, the first avatar created in that city will receive the Simmy/Simmies.

Anniversary Gifts
  • Based on entitlement days.
    • 1 year gift – pet statue
    • 2 year gift – mystic tree
    • 3 year gift – camp fire
    • 4 year gift –4th year landmark.
    • 5 year gift – 5th year cannon.
The oldest avatar on each account will receive three (3) of each gift in EA-Land and one (1) of each gift in TC3.
If the account has no avatar on one or both cities, the first avatar created in that city will receive the gifts.

The anniversary procedure will gift the primary avatar on the account with three (3) in EA-Land and one (1) in TC3 of each year’s particular gift as the anniversary date hits or if the date of the check is after the anniversary date and the particular account has not received the gift in the respective city, EA-Land or TC3. Anniversary dates are measured in entitled days only.

Skill Locks
Skill locks are currently calculated based solely on the age of the avatar regardless of entitlement status. This is changing permanently. Also, for a short period, there will be a special amnesty modification to the new algorithm.

Future Skill Lock Algorithm
Starting immediately following the skill lock amnesty, skill locks will be separately tracked and not based solely on the age of the avatar. Meaning you will not be able to take the avatars age and divide by 21, add 20 and arrive the number of skill locks. Here are the rules going forward after amnesty:
  • Skill locks can be gained but not lost.
  • Events or other programs, like skill lock amnesty, may add skill locks.
  • All new avatars will receive 10 locks.
  • Each 21 days off avatar age on a Premium or Founder account will accumulate 1 lock. Free players accumulate no locks. However, if a player goes from paying to free the avatar they maintain retains their locks accumulated. They of course do not continue to accumulate.
Skill Lock Amnesty
Over a period of N days (probably 2-3 weeks long), the skill lock system will use a different algorithm. The lock amnesty will end April 30, 2008 (just like the deadline for founders and explorers).

The skill lock calculation during amnesty will be the maximum of the three following numbers:
  • Age of the avatar divided by 21 plus 20. Or
  • Entitled age of the account (same as anniversary gifts) divided by 21 plus 20.Or
  • Current number of skill locks.
This calculation will be once per day during the amnesty period encompassing all avatars created during the amnesty period.

So when is all this going to happen?!

We will be doing various pieces of the gifting and amnesty over the next 2-3 weeks. And if all goes as planned you should receive city-from gifts this week. When we are sure an aspect is working we will let you know via the blog.

Thanks,

Greg

Happy Fourth Birthday, EA-Land Mania!

Four more years!
On March 23rd, four years ago, a wacky group of Simmers met together in secret, determined to take over the world. Nothing that revolutionary actually happened, but they did launch a brand new TSO fansite by Sims, for Sims. Who would have thought that that website would go on to be one of the most popular TSO fansites among players?

To celebrate four years of service to the TSO community, and now to the EA-Land community, we have prepared some new stuff for you to look at and hopefully have a lot of fun with. Strap yourselves in, 'cause here we go!

First up, we have a new Special Feature for you to check out. In it, our very own Lady talks about the creation of the site and how far it has come in four years. We also have pictures of the various site layouts of the past so that you can see how far we've come in that time. Please enjoy this slice of TSO Mania history!

Next, we have a brand new (and very cool, if I do say so myself) "Tools" menu located on the left side of the site under the "Cities" menu. Under this menu, you will find three EA-Land search options: Avatar Search, Lot Search, and Neighborhood Search. You can use these tools to find real-time information about Avatars, properties, and neighborhoods in both EA-Land and Test Center 3. Check up on your friends, find a property, see how large your neighborhood has grown, and even earn badges for your Avatar's profile. All of this information is presented to you in an easy-to-understand way so that you can be better informed about your game. Have fun with it!

Also under the "Tools" menu, you will find a link to our new Signature Creator! You can now generate forum signatures for either your Avatar or property in a variety of colors. Now you can show off your Avatar or your property to the world, even when you aren't playing. Enjoy!

We have also made a bunch of minor updates to several other sections of the site. The Free Play & Subscribing guide has been reorganized and updated to show the three different account types a player can have, as well as the steps required to sign up and start playing. If you have recently been demoted from your in-game job and can't figure out why, you can now head on over to the Factory, Restaurant, Dancer or DJ guide to read up on how demotions work. The Current Cities page has been updated with information about city maintenance times, and last but not least, the news archive now has previous and next month buttons to make navigation easier.

And finally, a great big thanks to all of you dedicated fans who have made this possible. You guys keep us motivated, and we love creating new things for you to look at and explore. And as always, your feedback and suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for everything, and we intend to keep you up to speed with EA-Land for another four years and more!

Happy birthday, EA-Land Mania, and happy gaming, fellow players!

We are now EA-Land Mania!

New Site Address
As you may have noticed, we have changed the site name to EA-Land Mania in order to keep with the slow departure the development team is making from The Sims Online branding. With the name change, a new website address is available for you to access the site through:

We ask that you please update any bookmarks or links you have to this new address. The old address and site name will be left along side the new one to allow for a transition period since many players new and old still refer to the game as “The Sims Online”.

Now even though our site name has changed to EA-Land Mania, the dedication of the people behind the scenes has not. As always, you will continue to see us to produce high quality game guides, tools and other fun content to help you along with your time spent in EA-Land.

A huge thank-you goes out to all our dedicated visitors for your continued support! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns you can reach me at webmaster at tsomania dot net or Indigo at indigo at tsomania dot net.

Would you like anchovies on that?

Extra cheese, please!
No, you aren't dreaming. No, your eyes don't deceive you. Finally, after years of waiting (and years of my procrastination), the Pizza Guide is up and ready for your viewing pleasure! Just like our other Group Money Object Guides, this one will give you the basics of the game and interface, and it will walk you through a round of gameplay.

Again, I apologize for my unfathomable laziness. But now we can put that aside, take some calls, and cook up some supreme pizzas! Enjoy!

Groovy Lava Game Part II
Source: http://www.ea-land.ea.com/blog/?p=721
The next part of the Groovy Lava Game begins today. This time the game is slightly more difficult, with each player having to find a set of dot cards that equals the number on the target card in their inventory. There are seven different colors of dot cards and target cards. Your dot card colors must match your target card color for completion. You have a week and a half to find all the cards you need, this part of the game ends with Monday's maintenance. For more details check out Sara's Blog Post over at the EA-Land blog.

Updated Custom Content Section

Top o' the morning, everyone!

With wave after wave of new kinds of custom content coming our way, our Custom Content Guide was getting a bit cluttered, so we have cleaned it up and updated our information appropriately. In it, you will now find separate sections on how custom bitmaps, custom objects, and skinnable objects work, and how you can upload your own. Additionally, we have provided links to some great resources that can get you started on creating your own custom content from scratch. Check it all out and get those creative juices a-flowing!
