Introduction
The Sims Online originally had an array of twelve cities in which to settle. Additionally, numerous other cities existed as files,
but were never opened outside of beta testing for play. The original twelve active cities were eventually closed, and the two
cities of EA Land took their place. Although they were no longer their own unique entities, the original twelve city maps of The Sims Online,
as well as some of the unused city maps, were used as the buildable areas of the much larger cities created for EA Land.
Legacy Cities
The Legacy Cities were the twelve active cities of The Sims Online. Initially,
Alphaville was the only Production City available to live in; however, with
anticipated demand for more buildable space on the rise, eight more cities opened
their doors to players, the most recent being Fancey Fields. In late 2004,
Dragon's Cove was founded as a city with hardcore tuning and gameplay. Four months
later, Betaville was created as an experimental city with Free Will and Sim families.
Through all of this, the city of Test Center served not only as a place to test
new and upcoming features, but also as a permanent home to many players.

Unused Cities
The Unused Cities consisted of a number of maps that were never actually utilized
for play in The Sims Online. Ranging from Albertstown to Zavadaville, TSO's
forgotten lands hid themselves in the files of the game, never to be inhabited.
Why weren't these cities in the game? For one thing, there was simply no use
for them. With the current cities at the time nowhere near being full, adding
more would have made the game far too spread out and isolated. In addition,
more cities would have been a greater load on the game's servers, thus
causing more lag, more complaining, and less actual playing in the available
cities.
During the Beta Test of The Sims Online, however, these cities were briefly
in use before a major data wipe of all cities, mostly as a sort of fun
happening before everything had to be erased. Everyone was given §100,000
to live in these forgotten cities and just have a blast. The next day, all
remnants of West Darrington, Virginia Islands, Nichol's Notch, and all the
rest were but memories in the heads of their short-lived residents.

EA Land
In EA Land, there were two cities that players could create a Sim in. Both cities looked identical in
geography, but served two different purposes. The first city was EA Land, also known as the production server,
where all completed and active features of the game resided. The second city was Test Center 3, which was a
test server where game versions not quite ready for the production server are tested by the general public.

Within each EA Land city there was 15 areas where players could build their property. These areas are composed
of the twelve original cities of The Sims Online and three of the unused cities.
While the names of these buildable areas were not seen inside the game, many players used them when referencing a
particular area.
