Judith Peynter - Self Portrait
|
|
Late 17th century. Peynter was both praised and loathed by contemporary critical opinion. She was seen as dangerous because she was a woman exercising a creative ability thought to be exclusively male. These fears proved well founded when she took the lives of two particularly avid critics, as well as her own, in a leap to their deaths from a castle tower. |
