Jack-O-lantern
|
|
Long mistaken for a vegetable, the pumpkin is technically a fruit that has been cultivated by Native Americans for over 5000 years as part of their basic died. In the 1800's, Irish immigrants used the pumpkin to symbolize a damned soul named Hack who tried to trick the Devil. Today, the Jack-O'-lantern is a hotly contested symbol, used both as a reminder of ancient, pagan spirituality and a reminder to start shopping for the holidays. |
