Archum Aqueductum
|
|
The ancient Romans spent over 500 years, between 312 BC and 226 AD, building 11 aqueducts to bring water to Rome from as far away as 57 miles. Proof of the benevolent power of a central government during times of peace. Alas, when the "Pax Romana" came to an end, so did the aqueducts, these poetic artifacts their only survivors, mute guardians of a lost, bucolic dream world. |
