Thursday February 21, 2008 Farewell Production Cities! For me in particular it was a bittersweet moment, being one of the first to enter Alphaville in October of 2002 and today being one of the last to leave. As I sat in my lot which had been rebuilt to an exact replica of what it was back in 2002, memories of many friends who I had played the game with came back. While the city is now gone, the memories will remain. EA-Land has some mighty big shoes to fill, and I hope the team is up to creating a worthy replacement so many new memories can be made. See you in EA-Land!

Wednesday February 13, 2008 Closing Cities - Permanently Source: http://tso-e.com/blog/?p=547 Here is the tentative schedule: Wed, Feb 20: A client update will be provided. The update will provide eight (8) available slots for EA-Land. Characters from ALL cities (except Test Center 3) will be filling those slots. (Important Note: if you have more total characters than eight (8) in those cities some of characters will no longer be available so make room for all your characters). Thu, Feb 21: All cities except EA-Land and Test Center 3 will go offline permanently. Tue, Feb 26: Test Center 3 will go offline for a few hours for data center and database migration. Wed, Feb 27: EA-Land will go offline for a few hours for data center and database migration. Caveat: There are a lot of elements involved behind the scenes involving a few groups. The dates may change by 1-2 weeks. Moves and Merges The shutdown does NOT affect moves or merges. We will continue to move and merge characters until the cities are empty. Moves (a.k.a. Bullet Train): The moves were placed on hold for short time due to a bug with multi-tile objects. Once that bugged is addressed we will resume moves. Merges: The issues with the merge are being addressed. There is more work required; a future post will be provided when we can accurately predict merge dates. Regards, gk

Sunday February 3, 2008 Mini Feature: Behind the Coming Soon... Have you ever wondered what lies behind some of the "Coming Soon..." buttons that exist in the property mode panel? These buttons have remained inactive since the launch of the game, but behind them is the unfinished work of the developers. Property Mode The first inactive button in the property mode is Property Statistics. Clicking this button will bring up a panel that shows information about your property such as how many floors you have, the square footage and so on. Your property also appears to be rated on its size, furnishings, yard, upkeep, and layout. One can assume this is similar to how it was done in the offline game. Property Statistics The next inactive button is Bills, which does not have any associated panel with it. After Bills comes Activity Logs. Under this button we find three log options; Roommates, Visitors and Events. We assume the comings and goings of roommates and visitors would be logged, as well as any events such as kicking or banning a visitor. Activity Logs Next inside the Environment Settings we find Light Color settings. This setting probably changed the color of light radiated from lamps and objects which would have been great to set the mood on themed properties. Light Color Settings Finally we have Light Cycle settings. These settings allowed you to change the time of day on your property so that it would be held at night, sunset/sunrise, or day or set back to cycle between all 3 like the game does now. This would be particularly useful for lots that are displaying custom content to be sold, since it is difficult to see at night the light cycle could be set to hold at day. Light Cycle Settings There are a couple other buttons that have "Coming Soon..." on them, such as Terrain Tools in Build Mode and Expenses in the Budget window. The terrain tools were once available during the beta of the game but were removed due to complications, and the Expenses in the budget window were just never completed. Do you want to see some of these features enabled in the game? We suggest you head on over to the Game Blueprints Wiki and create an article with your ideas on how the features should be implemented.
